Rich DeMarco's 1959 Thunderbird Convertible Refresh
Current Club President Rich DeMarco writes on 10/15/2011: This is the end result of a two and half year facelift.  It was not a total ground-up restoration, but a good strip down and make it look fresh.  There is a long, ugly story behind this project but I will not get into that now. I will only say that after two and a half years, and a lot of work!!! and a lot of talking to myself about what I have got myself into!!!. my 'Bird is finally able to be enjoyed again.

Dale Flagler writes on 10/13/2011: I've been away from the BTC for 10 years now with duty in the National Capitol Area as a mobilized Reservist.  Consequently, I haven't been able to drive the 'Birds. Hopefully, that will change in 2012 as the Army downsizes and I can get back to enjoying the Thunderbird experience.

The '60 coupe was my first experience with the old classic. It has the standard 352 engine and a leather interior.

The '57 has 2 tops and was originally owned by Francis Langford, the singer/actress who accompanied Bob Hope on most of his WWII USO tours. She was married to Ralph Evinrude (Evinrude Boats / Motors) and got the T-Bird as a Valentine's Day gift in 1957. The car sports a 312/4BBL and automatic transmission.

Don Vincent writes on 10/10/2011: When Laura and I were shopping for our SquareBird, we decided to focus on a 1960, mainly because we were planning a 1960 themed party to celebrate Laura's 50th in June 2010.  In February we found our ride on eBay, located in New Jersey, a Raven Black hardtop, 58K original miles, with original red leather interior.  A phone call to the owner disclosed that he had replaced the gas tank, and installed new Edelbrock 4 bbl carb, new brake shoes, cylinders and rubber brake hoses. Making some quick travel arrangements, we were soon on the NYS Thruway headed downstate that same afternoon.  After meeting with the owner and taking her for an extensive test drive, the deal was sealed and arrangements for shipping made soon thereafter.  "The Batmobile" was delivered to Amherst in fine shape and in plenty of time for the party.

Pictured above is a scene from the big party.  The family had out-of-town guests from Minnesota, California and NYC, including Laura's five sisters.  That's Laura in front in the white dress, and her sisters (left to right) Amy, Cathy, Beth, Ruthann and Linda.
